Dr Wayne Tinsey
Wayne Tinsey is the founder and leading voice of Our Common Heart.
He is an educator, speaker, writer, and mentor whose life’s work has been shaped by a deep commitment to education, spirituality, leadership, justice, and the search for meaning. Over many decades, he has served in teaching and senior leadership roles across schools, universities, and educational communities in Australia and internationally.
Wayne was Professor and Head of the School of Religious Education at the University of Notre Dame Australia in Fremantle. During this time, he also served as Director of the Catholic Institute of Western Australia and the Edmund Rice Centre for Social Justice. He later became the inaugural Executive Director of Edmund Rice Education Australia, a role he held for fourteen years. Prior to this, Wayne was Director of Schools in the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle.
Wayne is the founder of Edmund Rice Education Beyond Borders, a global education network of 230 school communities across 24 countries. For five years, he served as Global Ambassador, offering inspiration, support, and formation to leaders, educators, and students throughout the network.
Fluent in English and Spanish, Wayne works comfortably across cultures and contexts, bringing a broad, deeply human, and globally informed perspective. Throughout his life, he has been a strong advocate for justice and a voice for the poor and disenfranchised. He has personally led hundreds of people into encounters with communities on the margins through immersion experiences in India, Africa, and Latin America.
Through Our Common Heart, Wayne now freely shares his experience and wisdom through speaking, mentoring, spiritual accompaniment, and his reflective writings. His work supports those who feel drawn to a deeper, more compassionate vision and a more conscious way of being, educating, and leading.
Grounded in the Christian tradition while deeply open to the wisdom found across spiritual paths and human experience, Wayne writes and speaks with a thoughtful, compassionate, and accessible voice.
He is the author of Touchstones and Our Common Heart, as well as hundreds of reflections on spirituality, education, leadership, and the search for meaning. These writings are freely available on this website.
Wayne’s work is shaped by both lived experience and years of academic study, including a Doctorate in Education, Master’s degrees in Education and Theology, a Certificate IV in Celebrancy, Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) Practitioner Certification, and training in Hypnotherapy and Coaching.
